What if the thing that almost broke your business became the reason you built your next one?

For Doreen Triphonia Moyo, Founder and CEO of Novareth Consulting Co., failure became a blueprint.

At 25, Doreen is completing her final semester in Business Administration while building a consultancy focused on a problem she believes is often overlooked in Malawi's entrepreneurship space: businesses don't only need good ideas. They need systems strong enough to carry those ideas.

Her own experience taught her that lesson.

At a Glance

Over the past six years, Doreen has worked across international procurement, marketing and content strategy. That combination is unusual and practical: an understanding of sourcing, negotiation and operations, alongside experience in building brands, communicating ideas and developing content.

But the experience that shaped her most as a founder wasn't a successful project.

It was watching a business she had helped build fall apart.

From the outside, the business looked successful. But underneath, the systems weren't strong enough to support it.

That experience changed how Doreen thought about entrepreneurship.

She began seeing a pattern around her: young entrepreneurs with talent, ambition and ideas were starting businesses every day, but many were never taught the operational foundations needed to sustain them.

Novareth was built to address that gap.

For 265 Business Angels, this is exactly the kind of founder story worth putting in front of the ecosystem: a young operator turning a hard lesson into a service that helps other businesses survive what she survived.

A Business Built Around a Simple Problem

For many young Malawian businesses, starting is only half the battle.

The other half is what happens after launch — when orders grow, cash gets tight, roles blur, customers complain, and the founder is doing everything at once.

Novareth Consulting Co. works on the less glamorous, but often critical, parts of building a company:

Structure, Systems and Sales

  • Business structure — roles, responsibilities and operating rhythm
  • Operations and systems — processes that don't depend on the founder's memory
  • Sales processes — from lead to close to follow-up
  • Team development — hiring, managing and retaining early staff
  • Customer experience — service standards that keep buyers coming back
  • Startup launch consultancy — helping new ventures start with structure from day one
  • Business audits and consulting sessions — diagnosing what's broken before it breaks the business

The goal is straightforward: help businesses build the backbone they need to survive beyond the excitement of starting.

Doreen's approach is deliberately grounded in experience.

She isn't building Novareth around the idea that entrepreneurs simply need more theory. Her own experience of building, failing and rebuilding informs the systems and strategies she brings to clients.

Early Traction

Novareth is already working to establish itself beyond the youth entrepreneurship space.

The company has secured a strategic partnership with Xpansion, a corporate-focused consultancy, whose CEO now serves as a direct advisory resource to Novareth. That link gives a youth-led firm an enterprise-grade sounding board — and a bridge into corporate clients.

It has also delivered international importing training programmes and worked with clients across several areas, including importing, debt recovery, customer service provision and business systems.

At the same time, Novareth is building its presence through educational content across social platforms, using practical business insights to build relationships with potential clients before they ever book a session.

Young people are entering importing, retail, wholesale, home and decor businesses and other sectors with increasing ambition. Novareth is meeting them where they already learn — on their phones — then converting attention into advisory work.

Why This Matters Now in Malawi

Malawi doesn't have a shortage of starters. It has a shortage of sustainers — and systems are why:

  • Most MSMEs are micro, informal and fragile. Malawi has 987,480 MSMEs employing about one million people, yet 74% are micro and 89% are informal (FinScope 2019). Sourcing capital is the leading challenge across the business life cycle, from start-up to mature enterprise — but knowledge gaps run alongside it.
  • The failure pattern is operational, not just financial. Research on Malawian SMEs points to persistent gaps in business planning, financial management, bookkeeping, marketing and human resource management. Many enterprises cannot afford professional support services that could improve growth and resilience, contributing to high failure rates.
  • Youth energy is high; survival infrastructure is thin. Half of Malawi's population is aged 10 to 35. Programmes like the K2 billion Youth Innovation Fund (up to K5 million for ideation, K5–15 million for growth, up to K30 million for scale-up), the National Economic Empowerment Fund Youth Enterprise Loan, Zantchito Entrepreneurship — which has supported 674 entrepreneurs to launch products and services — and university UniPods are pushing more young people to start. But as the 2026 National Youth Summit heard, young people need ecosystems combining funding with mentorship, market access, skills and supportive policy — not capital alone.
  • Business development services are now policy. Parliament passed the MSME Act No. 20 of 2024 to regulate, promote and develop MSMEs, associations and business development service providers. The Zantchito State of Entrepreneurship 2025 report stresses embedded BDS across pre-incubation, incubation and post-incubation as essential — exactly the lane Novareth occupies.
  • The operating environment punishes weak systems. The World Bank Enterprise Survey 2025 cites access to finance, corruption and tax rates as top constraints, with senior managers in Malawi spending almost 4x more time on regulatory compliance than peers in Sub-Saharan Africa. The policy rate at 26% and commercial lending at 25–38% leave no margin for operational waste. When compliance, forex and power already strain a business, messy books, unclear roles and ad-hoc sales are what tip it over.

Novareth's bet is that the missing piece for many youth-led businesses is not another idea or another loan. It is structure: documented processes, clear ownership, disciplined sales and service standards that let a business absorb growth instead of collapsing under it.

The Ask

Novareth Consulting Co. is currently looking for customers and clients — not investment, but partnerships that build traction:

Young entrepreneurs who want to build to last

If you are in importing, retail, wholesale, home and decor or services and want stronger systems from the beginning — business structure, operations, sales, team and customer experience — talk to Novareth before small cracks become existential.

Established businesses that have outgrown their systems

If you have grown but recognise that internal structures, operations or sales processes need attention — including debt recovery and service delivery — Novareth offers audits and consulting sessions to reset the foundation.

Corporate and training partners

Through its partnership with Xpansion, Novareth is also extending into the corporate space. If you run youth, SME or supplier-development programmes that need practical operations and sales capacity, not just classroom theory, this is a delivery partner to consider.

For Doreen, the goal isn't simply to help entrepreneurs start.

It is to help them build something that can last.

> "Failure doesn't have to be the end of the story. It can teach you how to build the next chapter properly."

That idea sits at the heart of Novareth.

A business can have the talent, the vision and the ambition to succeed. But without the structure underneath it, growth can expose every weakness at once.

Doreen has experienced that firsthand.

Now, she is building a business to help other founders learn those lessons before the cost becomes too high.
