Founder Spotlight: Ekari Faria — Turning Malawian Creativity into Careers with InspireX
Originally featured on 265 Business Angels social media channels — Founder Spotlight Series, September 2026. Expanded for the blog with additional Malawi context.
Malawi doesn't lack creative young people. We need systems that turn that creativity into careers.
That is the challenge Ekari Faria, Founder & Chief Creative Officer of InspireX, is working to address.
At a Glance
Based in Lilongwe, Ekari sits at an unusual intersection — design, technology, creativity and purpose. With a background in Design Thinking and ICT, he founded InspireX in 2023 around a conviction that creativity and technology should do more than help businesses grow. They should also create opportunities, build capabilities and change lives.
InspireX Africa today is an 8-person, purpose-driven creative tech company (Lilongwe-headquartered, with teammates in India and Malawi) whose mantra is simple: "Every brand has the potential to influence and lead. By discovering its identity, pursuing its purpose, and expressing its beliefs consistently, a brand stops competing and starts leading."
For 265 Business Angels, this is exactly the kind of founder story worth putting in front of the ecosystem: a business solving a commercial need today while building the talent and opportunity pipeline for tomorrow.
Two Engines, One Mission
Building brands. Building people. Building opportunity. InspireX operates through two distinct but connected engines:
Studio Lab — The Commercial Engine
Studio Lab is the revenue engine. It works with organisations on:
- Brand and identity strategy
- Creative storytelling
- Digital product design
InspireX helps businesses understand who they are, communicate that identity, and turn ideas into meaningful digital experiences. Clients get more than a logo — they get a brand system that drives growth and digital experiences that shape perception, build trust, and create equitable, human-centred solutions.
Recent work includes branding for the Umunthu Social Impact Forum 2026 (where InspireX is Official Organizing Branding and Communications Partner), and earlier projects such as branding an innovative e-learning platform bringing education to remote communities via keypad phones.
Future Lab — The Ecosystem Engine
Future Lab takes that same creative and technological thinking into the wider ecosystem, with a focus on creative education and youth entrepreneurship.
Its flagship initiative is LearnX Africa, an EdTech platform designed to equip secondary school students across Malawi with practical creative and digital skills. The complementary Design the Future initiative has already kicked off hands-on workshops — for example at Bwaila Secondary (11 June) and Mkwichi Secondary School (13 June 2025) with partner Noble Minds — covering Graphic Design, Filmmaking, Animation, and Entrepreneurship.
The bigger idea is not simply to teach students how to use technology. It is to start building a pipeline into creative careers earlier, giving young people the skills, exposure and opportunities to participate in Africa's growing creative and digital economy.
Ekari previewed this vision at the Bunda Creative Conference 2025 at LUANAR (8 November 2025) under the theme "Design the Future: Empowering the Next Generation," speaking on "The Power of a Gift" — the idea that creativity is a tool for leadership, transformation and sustainable change — and at Thrive Afrika's Creative Business Cup Malawi 2025 pitch event, where InspireX was selected for a six-month mentorship with Thrive Afrika, Emerge Livelihoods and Converged Technology Networks (CTN).
Why This Matters Now in Malawi
Malawi's creative economy is at an inflection point:
- Youth bulge, opportunity gap. Over half the population is under 18. Digital entrepreneurship studies in Malawi (2025) show 82% of youth entrepreneurs use mobile money and average 28% annual revenue growth, but are held back by limited internet access, high data costs, low digital literacy and scarce startup financing.
- Monetization is broken. UNDP's UniPod Innovation Talk Series in June 2026 — "Unlocking Content Monetization in Malawi's Creative Economy" — and an open letter from Malawian creators to government highlight that Malawi is still ineligible for Facebook, TikTok and YouTube monetization, partly due to lack of PayPal/Stripe rails. Creators earn audiences but not consistent income. Weak IP protection and limited market access compound the problem.
- Policy momentum. The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture with UNESCO is developing a National Digital Roadmap for Creative Industries (launched November 2025, $30,000, 12-month consultation across regions, led by experts Salim Dada and Nyokase Madise). Minister Shadric Namalomba and MACRA are actively engaging Meta and TikTok on monetization pathways. As Principal Secretary Misheck Munthali notes, the creative industry can significantly contribute to national economic growth if properly harnessed.
- Skills to livelihoods. Programmes like LearnX and Design the Future directly answer UNDP's call: "not innovation for display, but innovation for use; not talent admired from a distance, but talent connected to markets, skills, financing and real opportunity."
InspireX's Studio Lab proves that Malawian creative services can compete commercially; Future Lab proves that the same capabilities can be systematized into a careers pipeline.
The Ask
InspireX is currently looking to connect with two groups:
Organisations looking for creative partners
If your organisation needs help with brand identity, creative storytelling or digital product design, Studio Lab is looking for new clients and collaborations. Reach Ekari at create.inspirexmw@gmail.com or 0899534141, or via inspirex.africa.
Investors interested in the next generation
InspireX is seeking investment for LearnX Africa, with the ambition of building a subscription-funded creative careers pipeline for secondary school students. This is an impact + commercial opportunity: a platform that can scale across Malawi and beyond while unlocking livelihoods in Africa's growing creative and digital economy.
